Oaklands Park
This week, we caught up with our Area Manager, Damien Waters and had a chat with him about a day in a life at Acorn Parks and what he’s most looking forward to this year!

Hi!  Introduce yourself to our readers!

Hi, I’m Damien and I am the Area Manager for Acorn Parks.

What does your role at Meadow Lakes & Oaklands Park involve?

I am responsible for overseeing the smooth and safe running of Meadow lakes, Oaklands Park and Looe Coastal Retreat and a direct point of contact for the Managing Director and the staff on the parks.

How long have you been with us?

I have only been with the business since the 3rd of November 2020, but I already feel part of the family as the team have been so welcoming.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Meadow Lakes/Oaklands Park?

I love the variety of my job! One day I could be meeting contractors and planning amazing new developments, then the next day I could be under a caravan, helping the park teams level them up for new owners… Everyday is different and that’s what I love the most.

What’s your favourite part of the park?

All the parks are so different, but they all have their own beauty.  As a keen fisherman, I love being down by the lakes at Meadow lakes, so if I’m not in the office, that’s where I will be!

Oaklands and Looe Coastal Retreat have amazing views over the Looe Valley and across to The Moors.  A walk around here really is good for the soul!

If you had a day out in Cornwall, where would you go & why?

This is a really hard question for me to answer.  As a true Cornishman, I am happy to go anywhere in Cornwall.  If I had to choose though, I would spend a day on Mawgan Porth beach with family and friends, because family and friends are what’s really important to me.

What are the 3 best things about living in Cornwall?

The beaches, the people and of course the pasties!

Where’s your favourite local place to eat that you can recommend to our visitors?

I love seafood, so for me, the best place to eat is in Mawgan Porth at a place called Catch.  They use the freshest fish from day boats which supports local fishermen – and the food is amazing, so it’s a win win!

If you had to choose 3 famous people to take there with you for dinner, who would you pick & why?

I would choose Sir Isaac Newton, as science fascinates me and I think his discoveries really changed the world we now know.  I would also choose Ayrton Senna as he was one of my heroes growing up – and I love anything with an engine.  Finally, I would have Sir David Attenborough.  He must have so many stories to tell and I love animals.

And finally, what are you most looking forward to in 2021?

Professionally I’m looking forward to meeting all the guests and owners and to contributing to the continued success of Acorn parks.  Personally, I’m looking forward to making the most of every second with my family and friends – and hopefully a holiday!
