Autumn in Cornwall: Things to do near Oaklands Park in 2026

There’s something rather special about Cornwall in autumn. The summer crowds begin to disappear, the countryside changes colour and crisp coastal walks can be followed by cosy afternoons in a local pub or café.

And when you own a holiday home at Oaklands Park, you don’t have to wait for the summer holidays to enjoy it.

With our long 11-month season, autumn is a wonderful time to make the most of your Cornish home-from-home. So, dig out your walking boots, grab a warm jumper and discover some of our favourite things to do around Looe and Polperro this autumn.

Take an autumn walk through Kilminorth Woods

Right on Oaklands’ doorstep, Kilminorth Woods is particularly beautiful at this time of year. As the leaves turn shades of gold, orange and red, it’s the perfect place for a peaceful morning walk, especially if you have a four-legged companion with you!

You can follow the woodland route towards Looe, before rewarding yourself with a coffee, lunch or a wander around the town.

One of the best things about owning at Oaklands is having walks like this ready and waiting whenever you fancy escaping to Cornwall.

Wrap up for a walk along the coast

Autumn certainly doesn’t mean the end of days by the sea.

In fact, quieter beaches, dramatic skies and fresh sea air can make this one of the loveliest times of year to explore the Cornish coastline.

Head to Hannafore Beach in West Looe for a stroll overlooking Looe Island, wander along East Looe Beach, or venture further along the coast around Polperro Heritage Coast.

Pack a flask, bring the dog and enjoy Cornwall at a slower pace.

Discover Looe’s spooky side

With its narrow streets, old buildings and centuries of history, Looe lends itself rather well to a ghost story or two!

Looe Ghost Tours are running on Wednesday and Friday evenings this autumn, taking you through the town’s backstreets, seafront and quayside while sharing tales of some of its supposedly lingering residents. Tours start outside the 15th-century Old Guildhall and run from 6.30pm until 8pm.

It’s a fun way to see a completely different side of a town you might think you already know.

Go pumpkin picking

Nothing says autumn quite like choosing your own pumpkin.

The Cornish Fun Farm & Maize Maze at Smeaton Farm, near Saltash, is holding pumpkin picking from 3rd October 2026. Pumpkins are available to pick from the patch, while the farm also has animals and plenty of other activities if you’re bringing the grandchildren along.

For those who like their Halloween activities a little scarier, the farm is also holding its Halloween Maze of Horrors on 31st October.

Spend a quieter day in Polperro

We love Polperro Harbour at any time of year, but there’s something especially charming about the village outside the busy summer months.

Wrap up and spend a few hours wandering its winding streets, stop for something warming in one of the cafés or pubs and watch the fishing boats in the harbour.

There’s also a Local Produce & Craft Market taking place in Polperro every Thursday throughout October 2026, with local meats, seasonal fruit and vegetables, Cornish honey, preserves and handmade products on offer.

Perfect for picking up a few Cornish treats to take back to your holiday home!

Enjoy a traditional Cornish sea shanty evening

Fancy something a little different?

Every Thursday evening, Looe’s Miner Quay can be found at the historic Jolly Sailor Inn in West Looe for an evening of traditional sea shanties.

The music starts at 8.30pm, with song sheets handed around so everyone can join in – perhaps after enjoying dinner and a drink at the pub first. The evenings are listed throughout October and into November 2026.

It doesn’t get much more Cornish than that!

See Golitha Falls in its autumn colours

If you fancy venturing a little further from Oaklands, Golitha Falls National Nature Reserve near Liskeard makes a lovely autumn day out.

The wooded valley surrounding the River Fowey is particularly atmospheric as the leaves begin to change, making it a beautiful spot for a countryside walk and a few autumn photographs.

Just remember your walking boots – Cornwall in autumn can be a little muddy!

Looe Festival Of Words: Poetry on the Rocks (Looe, Cornwall) - Literature Works

Catch the Looe Festival of Words

Book lovers have another reason to head into Looe this autumn.

The Looe Festival of Words returns for its third year until Sunday 4th October 2026, with events taking place around the town.

It’s another great example of why there’s still plenty happening locally once the main summer season comes to an end.

Looe's New Year Fireworks: Looe Fireworks 2025: Golden bursts and reflections over the harbour

Finish the season with fireworks

If you’re planning a November visit to your holiday home, pop Saturday 7th November 2026 in the diary.

The Looe Firework Show is scheduled to take place at Tencreek Holiday Park, providing another excuse for an autumn weekend at Oaklands.

Your Cornish escape isn’t just for summer

One of the joys of owning a holiday home at Oaklands Park is being able to experience Cornwall through the changing seasons.

Autumn means quieter towns, colourful countryside, coastal walks, local events and cosy evenings back at your holiday home – without having to squeeze everything into one summer holiday.

Whether you fancy a spontaneous weekend away, a few days exploring with the dog or an autumn break with the grandchildren, your Cornish home-from-home is waiting for you.

And sometimes, the quieter months turn out to be the best ones of all.
