Are Holiday Homes a Good Investment?
Investing in a Holiday Home

If you have plans to purchase a holiday home in Cornwall, you’ll certainly be considering whether it is going to be a good investment or not.  There are lots of things you will need to think about before buying and hopefully this post will help you decide!

Below we have a look at the top factors to consider when investing in a holiday home that’s right for you…

Location

When it comes to purchasing a holiday home, location is everything. Take a good look at where the home is in the park and local attractions surrounding the park. Just like when you buy a home, you should visit the park during the day and at night to get a proper feel for what it is like.

Understanding the park and the surrounding area is crucial if you want to make sure your investment is a good one. If you plan to have guests stay in your holiday home throughout the year, think about whether they would like to stay there too and maybe even ask for a second or third opinion, before making your final decision.

If you have the opportunity to do so, speak to some of the people who currently own a holiday home at the park. They will be able to give you a better insight into what there is to see and do and how they feel about the park itself and the local area.

Can You Live in a Holiday Home Permanently?

In a nutshell?  No, you can’t!

A lot of people get confused between a residential park (where you can live permanently) and other holiday parks with owner occupied holiday homes.

Ordinarily, park homes are used as secondary or holiday homes, unless they are residential of course, so before making your purchase, you should double check how long you can stay in your holiday home for.

At Oaklands Park, we close in February, so you can stay for 11 months of the year if you want to! However you must provide proof of your permanent residential address.

What’s the process of buying a Holiday Home like?

Buying a holiday home involves a similar process to that of buying a house. You can work closely with the park staff who will assist you with the buying process. You won’t physically own the land the holiday home is on, so you won’t be liable for stamp duty either.

Once you have chosen the park you want to live on, the first step you should take is speaking to the park staff. They will be able to give you more information, show you the holiday homes or plots available and advise you about the next steps to take.

As holiday homes are becoming more and more popular throughout Cornwall and the UK, a lot more people are benefiting from the advantages of holiday home living. Sharing a community with like-minded people is one of the many perks of owning a holiday home, along with the peace and quiet that comes with having a holiday home in a great location.
