Safety Procedures during BBQ Season

Whether you are staying in one of our holiday accommodations or visiting your local beach, we thought it’s important to remind everyone to enjoy their holiday safely.

  1. Never bury a barbecue in the sand, and make sure the BBQ has an appropriate stand or non-flammable surface before lighting. Sand cools down on the surface, however, it stores heat for hours and can cause severe burns.
  2. It is not advisable to place coals or wood on the beach; they can easily burn up and leave nails and other debris as well as causing untold injuries to people who bare feet themselves.
  3. Wait until the barbecue is completely extinguished with cold water before disposing in beach bins. Keep a bucket of water close by for emergencies.
  4. Never leave a barbecue unattended
  5. Make sure you are allowed to BBQ in that area. Disposable BBQs are allowed on Council-owned beaches, whilst gas BBQs are not permitted.
  6. Analyse your surroundings carefully. Make sure no flammable objects, pets or children are nearby.
